The inaugural Faculty AI Fellows is a new cross-disciplinary working group that will collaborate across the coming year to explore AI pedagogy that aligns with BC’s mission and supports student agency, reflection, and ethical inquiry
CDIL is pleased to announce the 2026-27 Faculty AI Fellows, an inaugural initiative of the AI Collaboratory, an emerging, university-wide effort sponsored by the Provost’s office to cultivate a shared culture of inquiry, experimentation, and reflection around AI and its implications for education at Boston College.
Over the upcoming academic year, the Faculty AI Fellows will collaborate with CDIL and the CTE to explore what formative AI pedagogy might look like at Boston College—using AI not merely for efficiency, but as a scaffold for student agency, ethical reasoning, personal reflection, and vocational discernment in ways that align with our Jesuit, Catholic mission.
Due to overwhelming interest, the selection process was highly competitive. Out of the over 80 applications received, we ultimately selected 24 faculty members to serve as Fellows for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Program Overview
The program offers a flexible runway for Fellows to move from individual exploration to collaborative action and shared storytelling.
- Starting in Summer 2026, Faculty AI Fellows focused on personal formation and AI fluency through workshops, individual consultations, and drafting a personal AI manifesto to produce an initial project proposal.
- Moving into the Fall semester in 2026, the program’s focus shifts to co-design and prototyping, enabling Fellows to test small-scale interventions, secure project partners, and share mid-year insights.
- In Spring 2027, Fellows will explore a collaborative experiment, share the narrative of what they learned from the year, and contribute to the broader university community by sharing their learning through presentations, published resources, or tangible disciplinary tools.

The program is facilitated by Tim Lindgren, Noël Ingram, and John FitzGibbon from CDIL in collaboration with Nirmal Trivedi from the Center for Teaching Excellence.
