This spring, 56 faculty members across Boston College are partnering with CDIL to reimagine what online and hybrid learning can look like for their students.
CDIL’s approach to supporting the development of courses that center on student learning, relationship-building between faculty and students, and deep engagement with the subject matter is highly collaborative. Each faculty member partners with several CDIL team members, including a learning designer, a learning design graduate assistant, a media producer, and a project manager. Together, the team draws on its unique areas of expertise to ensure each course development process is a success.

According to faculty members, a huge asset of partnering with CDIL is that through this collaboration, the faculty’s disciplinary expertise is translated into a format that helps students learn. To accomplish the goal of producing high-quality, engaging courses for students, CDIL members support each faculty member throughout the course development process and beyond. One faculty member, reflecting on their experience, said,
While my [Learning Designer] was instrumental in supporting me from start to finish, there were multiple colleagues at CDIL who helped me prepare my course. From syllabus construction, video development, and editing- everyone was available at a moment’s notice (literally) to either guide me through a certain process or to take the lead. The best part- knowing that their support does not end once my course is ready for publishing.
During any given year, CDIL supports around 150-200 online courses. Despite this scale, CDIL is committed to providing individualized co-design and consultation, working closely with each faculty member to create excellent, innovative digital learning experiences for students.
