NotebookLM Sandbox - Exploring Content-Grounded GenAI in Higher Ed

A three-session workshop series meant to help you explore how a content-grounded AI platform like NotebookLM might be useful for your teaching or research.

The workshops will take a hands-on, interactive approach to exploring NotebookLM. You’ll have the chance to build practical skills while also reflecting on how AI might fit into your own learning and teaching.

No prior technical experience is necessary, although basic familiarity with ChatGPT, Gemini, or other AI tools will be helpful.

Facilitators

The workshop will be hosted by the Center for Digital Innovation in Learning and will be facilitated by John FitzGibbon and Ophelia Wang

Workshop Goals

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate how to access and use the functions of NotebookLM effectively.
  • Engage in iterative prompting with NotebookLM to refine responses and enhance interactions.
  • Construct your own Notebook with relevant documents to assist you with specific teaching related tasks.
  • Utilize NotebookLM to develop resources to help with your teaching practice.
  • Assess the potential of NotebookLM to help your students with their learning in your course.

Where and When

All sessions will be held online on Zoom.

  • Session 1: Friday, October 3, 12:00-1:30
  • Session 2: Friday, October 10, 12:00-1:30
  • Session 3: Friday, October 17, 12:00-1:30

There will be some light homework/preparation before each session to make time for hands-on experimentation when we’re together. After each session, we’ll invite you to reflect on what you learned and share it with the rest of the group in a discussion post.

If you can’t make every session, you can still participate by watching the session recordings, doing the activities, and posting reflections.

Workshop Session Structure

1: Introduction to NotebookLM, 2: What can NotebookLM do for you?, 3: NotebookLM to help students learn
