This community of practice will bring faculty together to explore the intersection of thoughtful design and technology in designing for humanistic learning.
Purpose
Boston College faculty design creative, innovative, and deeply humanistic learning experiences, guided by the Jesuit, Catholic ethos of cura personalis. Yet much of the discourse around GenAI, with its emphasis on fully “redesigning” courses and assignments, might feel overwhelming in the context of the many responsibilities faculty already have on their plates.
This Community of Practice, rather than advocating for a full “redesign,” aims to build on faculty’s pre-existing strengths in learning design. Led by colleagues who are already shaping conversations and practical approaches in their courses about the impact of GenAI in their disciplines, this Community of Practice will create space for faculty to collaborate on how they are approaching and managing the impact of GenAI on student learning.
Format
This Community of Practice creates space for faculty participants to learn and discuss specific ways they’re approaching GenAI in their learning design
Each face-to-face session will feature:
- A short faculty presentation on a specific way they’re approaching GenAI in their learning design
- Brief Q&A
- Active group time to collaborate on practical, hands-on approaches
